ABOUT OHA

OHA is founded on the premise that fluency in more than one language develops a greater ability to communicate with and to understand other cultures.

BE PART OF THE FUTURE

OHA is Nevada’s contribution to leading a national movement of exceptional, diverse public charter schools that teach Modern Hebrew to children of all backgrounds and prepare them to be successful global citizens. OHA joins the growing number of Hebrew Public Charter Schools across the country that bring a firmly secular education to a new level of excellence.

HEALING THE WORLD

Our location choice brings a real mix of religious backgrounds, of races, and of socioeconomic backgrounds that are placed in a learning environment where the children don’t have anything in common with each other, other than a target immersion language.

PRE-KINDERGARTEN

In the pre-kindergarten classrooms, OHA will use a majority immersion model, meaning that the majority of the activities taking place in the classroom will take place in Hebrew. The early-childhood classroom will be staffed by one teacher and one instructional assistant to implement this model.

PRE-K TO SECOND GRADE

Students study both languages (Hebrew and English) in an immersion framework. The language instruction will be taught in that language, meaning that English Language Arts will be taught in English, and the Hebrew Language in Hebrew. Other content areas, such as math, social studies and science will also be taught in both English and Hebrew when possible.

HEBREW IMMERSION

As a dual-language school committed to immersion, OHA will help students achieve language proficiency in two languages – including reading and oral proficiency - and will set high learning standards for both English Language Arts and Hebrew Language, choosing curricula that will provide its teachers with the instructional resources to successfully develop these skills and abilities in its students.

WHY HEBREW?

Hebrew is a unique target language because it serves as a model of an ancient language that has been revived in modern times; it is an entrée to Semitic languages, and contemporary Israeli culture fosters characteristics and skills that empower children to be active global citizens. Israel parallels Nevada in many ways as a supporter of technology and a leader in innovation while drawing upon the diversity of international backgrounds.
